Lonergan Insurance Agency has been serving the insurance needs of our customers and business owners for almost 100 years. John Lonergan founded the business in 1918 and upon his passing in 1954, the ownership of his business passed to his wife Betty Lonergan. She ran the business until the early 1960's, after which her son John took over the business upon his graduation from Boston College. John passed away in 2009 and the business is now managed by the third generation of the family, Judy, Jay, and Liz Lonergan.

In 1980, the business was expanded to include a full service Real Estate Agency with many insurance customers requesting to sell their properties. Jay and Judy are licensed Realtors who have assisted hundreds of clients with purchase and sale transactions. Our Real Estate team assists homeowners and commercial building owners with everything necessary to insure a smooth and satisfactory transaction.

Our family-run business is proud to play an integral part in our community, having done so for nearly a century. Both John Lonergan Sr. and his wife Judy were awarded the Citizen of the Year by the Medford Chamber of Commerce, in 2008 and 2015 respectively. They are the first married couple to win the award separately.

To celebrate the agency’s 95th anniversary in 2013 they started sponsoring the Jingle Bell 5K walk/run to benefit the Medford schools. Since 1999, they have been the sponsors of the Jingle Bell Festival, an annual event held to benefit Community Family Alzheimers Day Care Center. Hundreds of thousands of dollars have been raised by this event.

They have held membership on the boards of many non-profit organizations such as Community Family, Salvation Army, Tri City Homeless, Visiting Nurses, Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Medford Chamber of Commerce, and the Rotary Club.
